On Tuesday, 7 April, the cornerstone of Põhja-Tallinn’s first high-rise – Volta SKAI – was laid in the Volta Quarter in Tallinn.
The end of the year brings about an exciting moment in the Volta Quarter development: one of the rarest buildings in the whole quarter – a 172-meter-long limestone building with arched windows, dating back to the beginning of the previous century – will be completed.
Today saw the completion of the second highrise in Endover’s Rocca Towers residential and business quarter, which is transforming the silhouette of Tallinn. The majority of homes and commercial premises in the tower have already been handed over to their new owners. Construction of the fourth and final building is due to commence in September, with the quarter as a whole being completed in 2023.
In a few years, the historic Volta quarter will be completed in the heart of Kalamaja, which is undergoing a thorough renovation. During the quarter's more than 100-year history, former industrial buildings have been used for a wide variety of purposes, from ship parts to sweets. The history of Volta Quarter dates back to more than 120 years ago when the first factory buildings were completed where a total of 10 million electric engines were manufactured and light was given to the city of Tallinn. Today, both historic limestone buildings and several fascinating elements have been preserved, some of which can be visited in the completed buildings already today.
