Volta quarter in the heart of Kalamaja has been brought back to life and is now all set to open its doors to the community.
Several new and old buildings have been completed and are ready to host various events, concerts or pop-up businesses this summer.
A new center for community
Throughout the previous century, more than 10 million electric motors and hundreds of thousands of waffle makers were produced in Volta. Today, the Volta waffle maker has become the symbol of the quarter and inspiration for the architecture and style of the newer buildings.
Volta Residences – the first new energy class A buildings in the quarter – were recently completed as well as the 172-meter-long limestone building – Volta Gallery Lofts – dating back to the beginning of the previous century. United by the unique history of the industrial quarter, the new and old buildings exhibit elements of the past in every detail. Hundreds of new inhabitants and businesses have already moved in.
